Heat Pumps include both Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP) and Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)as both technologies are very similar.
Ground Source Heat Pumps use the Earth’s natural thermal energy, a renewable resource, to heat or cool a building. The only additional energy these systems require is the amount of electricity they use to concentrate the energy harnessed and to circulate the heat throughout the building. Typically, this heat is distributed through under floor heating (a wet system) or as hot air (a dry system).
In addition, as well as providing heating, in some case, these systems can provide inexpensive hot water, to supplement the output of a conventional, domestic water heater.
Air Source Heat Pumps extract heat from the surrounding air and work in a similar way to GSHPs by using a refrigerant gas to absorb the heat and them compress it to get even more heat.
