Domestic systems have the potential to be as much as 90% energy efficient, reducing the energy bill and carbon dioxide emissions for the building. Excess electricity produced when heating the home in the morning has the potential to be fed back into the grid.
System costs
Due to the development costs of Micro-CHP and the advanced materials used in the engines they will be more expensive to buy and install. However, as with all new things, the cost of technology reduces with time and with Micro-CHP sales set to raise over the coming years the savings will come.
Maintenance
Micro-CHP units will require more service intervals than a conventional gas boiler however the auxiliary products fitted around the Micro-CHP are common to existing heating systems, in terms of maintenance it enables heating engineers to use existing skills, qualifications, equipment. However, service costs are likely to be similar to existing contracts.
