This is one of a series of fact sheets published by COGEN Europe to provide information about the status of micro-CHP in different European countries.
Micro Combined Heat and Power (CHP) is the simultaneous production of heat and electricity in individual buildings. Effectively the micro CHP unit replaces the conventional gas central heating boiler providing heat and hot water as usual, but additionally providing some of the home's electricity needs. It is anticipated that, ultimately, micro CHP is capable of providing 20% or so of the UK's electricity generating capacity, more than is currently obtained from nuclear power.
