Wind energy, the world's fastest growing energy source, is a clean and renewable source of energy that has been in use for centuries in Europe and more recently in the United States and other nations. Wind turbines, both large and small, produce electricity for utilities and homeowners and remote villages. During the five years from 1998 to 2003 the U.S. wind energy market grew by 24.5 percent.
Nevertheless, the domestic wind energy market is still relatively immature with few established devices for sale on a commercial basis. However, there is significant interest in the domestic wind market and it is anticipated that this will develop rapidly over the next few years. Upto October 2005 over 7,000 households had been given grants to get domestic wind turbines installed.
