Case Studies
Typically stand alone systems are found in locations where the cost of making a connection to the grid is impossible or more expensive than a PV system. Two typical examples are PV powered automatic parking ticket meter and an emergency telephone on a motorway.
More recently, in national funding programmes such as the dti “Major Photovoltaic Demonstration Programme”, PV systems have been connected to the grid. Most of these grid-connected systems in the UK are mounted on buildings.
